What your government recommends
Be ready for A few days[1]
โPack essentials for yourself and your family to last a few days. These should include medicines, special food for babies and children or elders. (NDMA Cyclone: Do's and Don'ts, 'When Evacuation is instructed')โ
Food: Keep some dry, non-perishable food always ready for use in an emergency. When a cyclone warning is issued, get extra food that can be eaten without cooking and store extra drinking water in covered vessels. Make provision for children and adults who need a special diet. Drink only boiled or chlorinated water during and after a disaster.[1]

Good to know
- โข India's official public guidance is hazard-specific (cyclones, floods, earthquakes, heat waves, etc.) and does not set a national number of days or litres of water to store.
- โข Official do's and don'ts for each hazard, including nuclear-radiological, chemical and biological emergencies, are published by NDMA and on the SACHET portal.
- โข Your state or district disaster management authority may give local guidance and helpline numbers.
